RTTNAFC Game 2

Just a short post about my second game in the Road to the NAFC.

I played against skaven and got to chose if I wanted to receive or not, which I wanted.
My idea was to try and hurt some rats and maybe have a numbers advantage in the second half.
The game started with a blitz and my opponent mad a risky move, blitzing with his rat ogre. Double skulls.

I then advanced up the field and scored in turn 8 after having lost the ball ones to a blitzing linerat. I was carrying the ball with a witch (with wrestle) and I din't opt to not use it out of fear that she might get hurt. This meant that my opponent could dodge in to two tackle zones and pick the ball up with a gutter runner. I did retrieve the ball for a turn 8 score. At that time my opponent had 4 KOs (including the rat ogre). That number was increased to 5 in his turn 8, but he did get a player back for turn 9.

I pressured him in my turn 9 and he made a risky long bomb pass in his turn 10 and yet again failed to get anyone back from the KO-box.

I used my remaining turns to grind up the field and scored the winning TD in turn 16.

Road to the NAFC

I entered in the Road to the NAFC last week. It's an online FUMBBL tournament with the same rules as the NAFC. I'll get to play six NAF-games on FUMBBL, for free. I couldn't pass that opportunity.

I decided on playing dark elves, since I really like playing them. They fit my style of play.
I'm waiting for my elves from the Impact kickstarter to arrive so I can start playing them on TT (they're going to be my tournament team 2016), but this was a good chance to get some NAF-ranked games in with them before then.

I went with the following roster

2 Witches (2x Wrestle)
4 Blitzers (2x Dodge, Guard)
1 Runner (Leader)
4 Lineelves
2 ReRolls
2 FF

(Blitzer skills on "day 2")

I went with this roster to try if I could live without an apo and if I needed three rerolls.
Otherwise I would have went without the runner (and added a dodge to a blitzer as well as a fifth lineelf)

I just finished my first game against orcs.
He chose to kick and I scored in my third turn. I then prevented him from moving forward and he had  one chance to score in his eight turn, which was a long pass to a goblin, which he failed.
That made me feel better about the game, since he had to score quick to win (and stop me from scoring again). I stopped his advance and his only chance to score in turn sixteen was a throw team mate try, which he failed, since I had put a couple of tackle zones on his troll. The troll fumble the goblin and the ball bounced out of the scrum. One of my witches picked the ball up and passed to a waiting blitzer for the 2-0 score in my turn sixteen.

I'm very happy with the game and how I played.

Fingers crossed for the next couple of games, but one thing is for sure, I like playing dark elves.

Gesundbrunnen Picknick Packers Logo

After asking twitter about the new logo, I got some great feedback.

I've now iterated the logo.
Here's the steps I took to find the now adopted logo.

Roster for BLOOD BATTTH and a new logo

I thought I'd continue the tradition of sharing my roster and thoughts for tournaments. This time it's the BLOOD BATTTH tournament in Hannover on the 7th-8th of February.
You'll find the rules here.

The roster is going to be quite similar to the one for StockBowl Cup but with additional skills.
The first day will be exactly the same, which means block on the trees and three side stepping 'flings.
On day two, I added a fourth side stepper, but that means that I've reached the maximum of four of one skill. I thought about adding two sure feet 'flings, but having had some bad experince with them at Oktoberbowl I instead opted for going even more on the defensive. So I added to diving tackle 'flings. I haven't tried them out in a tournament yet, since I think side step is much better, but I'll gladly give them a go.

So, here's the roster
2 Trees (2x Block)
10 Halflings (2x Diving Tackle, 4x Side Step)
2 FF
1 Master Chef
Deeproot
Puggy

The Gesundbrunnen Picknick Packers
Lets see how it goes.
Fingers crossed.
If I can improve on my NAF-Ranking at this tournament, I'll be very happy.

To help the Gesundbrunnen Picknick Packers further for the 2015 season, I decided to improv the logo.
Hopefully, this brings luck and who knows, maybe even a stunty cup somewhere.

Small update

Just a quick update.
I finished the lone rat and I'd just like to share the result, which I'm very happy with.
For the underworld team, the goblins and troll will probably get the blue colour as their skin colour.

New shade of the pink armour

Added blue contrast colour
Finished version, except the base

Tried a new style of numbers

Next project

Since the Impact kickstarter has been delayed, I've started with something else and that something is my underworld/skaven team.

I gave underworld a go on Cyanide and really like the team. I guess I've got a soft spot for stunty players. I also got my hands on a 2nd ed shaven team and to that I added a 2nd ed troll and some goblins from Neomics.

One of the goblins

I was inspired by this team
Awesome team from G-Painting
but it didn't turn out as I wished. Here's some wip pictures

Whip of a linerat

Whip of the skaven players in the underworld team
I'm not happy with the pink/purple combination and I'm therefore going to skip it. Right now I'm thinking about keeping the pink armour (although changing it a bit) and going for a turquoise contrast colour as well as some white. I'm also thinking about painting the skin on the goblins and troll in turquoise (and their clothes white). (thanks for the input @howlinggriffon)

I also made a misstake in starting with all the shaven players at once. I should have done as with the 'flings. Starting with just the one player to get the colours right. I'm now going to go forward with just the one rat and find the right blends of colours, before painting the rest.

If I'm happy with the team, I might take them to some tournaments next year, but I'm not sure yet. If the Impact elves turn up soon, I might switch to that team, since I'd really like to play dark elves at a tournament sometime soon.

As it is now, I think this is my pipeline:
1. Underworld/Skaven
2. Orcs
3. Nurgle
4. Undead/Necro (repaint with 3ed miniatures)
5. Humans
6. Chaos Pact

where the elves might come in at place 1 or 2, depending on when they show up.

Who am I kidding? The list will change a couple of times during next year anyway :)

Generic reroll counters and turn marker

I'm lazy and I'd therefore create generic counters so I could use them with all my teams.
The problem was that I wasn't happy with them, so I set out to create new ones.

First, I had a look at the bloody sports bases from tabletop art onto which I'd just glue a die.

But they weren't in stock when I ordered from my gaming store and I got tired of waiting so instead I went with bloody sports ball set from tabletop art to which I added a die and a skull or two.

This is what they looked like pre-painting.

And a painted set. A simple paint job, but it will do the job. I didn't want to spend to much time on the counters. I'd rather spend the time on the miniatures.

And the finished set of reroll counters.

For the turn marker, I went with two dice, a cat (a spot price from StockBowl Cup V) and a skull. The idea is to paint the dice as block dice. I'll update this blog with pictures once it's done.

Turn marker
I've now finished the turn marker. It's the one with the "block dice"

Generic markers

And this is how I transport my markers. Very practical (more skill rings to come).
